The Commerce Department Reported Construction Spending Fell 0.7% In January

Spending for December was revised to a decline of 1.6% from a prior estimate of a 2.5% drop.

Private residential construction rose 5.3% and private construction spending fell 1.2%.

ISM Reported Manufacturing Rose To 61.4%, Topped Consensus Estimates

Readings over 50 indicate that more manufacturers are expanding instead of shrinking.

The Institute for Supply Management on Tuesday said that its manufacturing gauge rose 61.4% in February, which is the highest level since May of 2004. Economists had expected the index to edge up to 61%.
