Amgen Inc. (AMGN) opened higher and is holding fractional gain in early trader after announcing that a potential cancer treatment it's developing with Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. failed to meet its key goal in a study.

The drug, motesanib, was tested on lung cancer patients in a late-stage study, but failed to improve overall survival rates for patients with non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer.
