Marissa Mayer will be Yahoo's next CEO, reports the New York Times. 37 year-old Marissa Mayer was one of the top executives at Google up until yesterday as it is reported she resigned from the search giant by telephone. Mayer's work with Google includes defining the look and feel of its image search, news section, and even homepage.

The former Google executive will have her work cut out for her as Yahoo has fallen on hard times as of late. The web behemoth has had a difficult time of keeping up with other large web properties such as Facebook, and Mayer's former employer, Google.

Yahoo has been without a permanent Chief Executive Officer since May when its former CEO Scott Thompson resigned amid doubts concerning the validity of his credentials. Over the past five years, Yahoo's shares have dropped 41%.
